Reminder (=T.T=)

Buzz... Buzz... Buzz. Okay shut up you cellphone reminder you! Okay, so what does it say today? Projects? Assignments? Don't tell me I forgot to meet up with someone? Oh wait, maybe I was supposed to buy something important, so what does it say: "Be Sad".

Okay, that was weird. Who would ever want to be sad?! I want to be happy, as in h-a-p-p-y 24/7 nonstop. I would love to spend a fun day with my friends and family, morning till dawn, till the next day, till... I drop dead on bed and go to sleep. Yup, that's how I wanted everything to happen… so who in the proper mind would want to be reminded to ‘Be Sad’ when it is great to be happy?! But then, not everyone may have noticed this, it is a good reminder to be sad because it reminds us.

Just like the cellphone reminder, Sadness is a reminder. It reminds us of how the circle of life rolls, that sometimes you're on top and you're down. It reminds us that we can't have everything in the world. It reminds us that nothing is perfect. It reminds us how much we need to stick to one path. It reminds us of one really important thing in our life… it reminds us how valuable happiness is.

Everyday, we pray for happiness. We hope that every day would be great, it would be either spending a really fun day with your friends or hang out with you special someone without a fight. Yup, that’s what most people pray for because they want to have happiness. If I ask you “Why do you like being happy?”, how would you answer? If I were asked, I would probably answer that it’s because being happy feels great or because it allows you to close your eyes peacefully in the evening with a silly smile on your face as you remembered the moments that happened earlier. Those are the probable answer but it never gave a sufficient reason on ‘Why you value it’, and the right answer? Sadness.

There is the theory called “Reinforcement Theory”. It focuses on the aspect that people have a tendency to repeat actions with favorable results and avoid actions that have negative results. It is the same with sadness and happiness. The reason that people wants to be happy is because of the favorable result or the favorable feeling we experience whenever we are happy. As for sadness, the reason we are reminded of happiness when sad is because it has a negative result, negative feelings that can really pull us down. During the times that the negative result is still there, we would keep in mind that we should avoid this the next time around so that it won’t result to this and then finally, this about the time when the favorable situation happened.

Still don’t understand what the whole point of sadness is? Well, here goes. This is the simplest way to explain it: Have you ever experienced when eating your favorite food everyday, breakfast lunch and dinner with afternoon snack included, YUMMY! It would be the best day of your life every, right? That’s the whole idea. If you are to have happiness everyday, then what’s new? You could probably send a message to heaven and hell, “What use are you if we’re all already having loads of fun here on earth?” So sadness appeared, because God wanted to remind us how much we want to have happiness… eternal happiness. It reminded us that only with him will we be happy forever.

So don’t be sad that you’re sad but rather believe in the greater purpose of everything. You may not enjoy being sad now but it comes with a great purpose we are hardly aware of. Open your eyes, because there are a lot of things that remains unexplained yet has a great purpose for our life’s journey. On a funnier note, what if the cockroach has a greater purpose than any insect in the world?
